ARCHANGEL GABRIEL:

The courage to bring your truth to light

Posted by Christina Zipperlen on October 6, 2026

I feel a shift. A renewed pull towards creating, expressing, and trusting the ideas that keep asking for my attention. It’s subtle, but unmistakable. Like a cool breeze through open windows, something feels as though it is beginning to move again. A time to make subtle changes and listen to the signs.

These moments rarely arrive when our lives are free from worry. Perhaps that is part of what makes them so powerful.

It’s times like these that I think of Archangel Gabriel.

THE GREAT MESSENGER

Known as an angel of revelation, Gabriel is associated with bringing new ideas into being, sharing inspirational messages that stimulate progress, and encouraging a deeper belief in oneself.

Across centuries and spiritual traditions, Gabriel appears again and again as the great messenger, arriving at pivotal moments when something needs to be revealed, understood or brought into form.

In the Book of Daniel, Gabriel appears to help Daniel understand visions that have bewildered him. In the Christian tradition, Gabriel announces the coming births of John the Baptist and Jesus. And in Islam, Jibril, the Arabic name for Gabriel, is associated with bringing divine revelation to the Prophet Muhammad.

Different traditions, different stories, and yet a beautiful thread runs through them all:
Gabriel arrives when something needs to be revealed.

A truth, a message, an understanding, a possibility that has not yet taken form.

There is something I love about this: revelation is only the beginning.

Receiving a message is one thing. Having the courage to listen to it, trust it, speak it and allow it to change the direction of your life is another.

The Annunciation painting by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrin

THE MOMENT BEFORE EVERYTHING CHANGES

Perhaps the most enduring image of Gabriel in Western art is the Annunciation: the moment Gabriel appears before Mary to tell her that she will give birth to Jesus.

For hundreds of years, painters have returned to this meeting. Gabriel is often shown approaching Mary with a white lily, a flower that became deeply entwined with the symbolism of the Annunciation.

I find myself less interested in the grandeur of the scene than in the intimacy of it:
A message arrives, a life is interrupted, and suddenly there is a before and an after.

So many of the turning points in our own lives begin in much quieter ways. A realization we can no longer ignore, an idea that keeps returning, a truth we finally admit to ourselves, a sentence we know we need to say, a dream that asks us to take it seriously.

We may not know where it will lead, we only know that we have heard it and it is time to dare and let is shine through us … releasing the outcome.

Perhaps this is why Gabriel has remained such a powerful figure for so long. Gabriel stands at this doorstep between the unseen and the seen, between knowing something inwardly and allowing it to take form in the world.

I DARE TO SHINE BRIGHTLY

Our Dare to Shine pieces were created around this very reminder.

On one side of the coin is an intricately carved image of Archangel Gabriel, messenger, guide and protector of truth.

On the other are the words:
I dare to shine brightly.

I’ve always loved the word dare here. It acknowledges that being fully ourselves does require courage.

There are reasons we make ourselves smaller. Reasons we swallow words, question our intuition or wait for someone else to give us permission. Shining brightly isn’t always comfortable or something we were taught or encouraged to do. Sometimes it means letting ourselves be visible before we know how we will be received.

Set into the pendant are two White Topaz stones and one Rose Quartz. White Topaz carries the energy of truth and is associated with mental clarity and manifestation, supporting us in bringing our ideas, dreams and intentions into form. Rose Quartz, widely known as a heart stone, nurtures the heart and soothes the system, inviting harmony, compassion and a deep sense of trust.

I love these stones beside Gabriel. Clarity, held by love.

Because speaking our truth without our hearts can become something hard. And keeping our hearts open without honoring our truth can ask us to abandon ourselves.

Perhaps we need both. The courage to hear what is true and tenderness to carry it well. (Plus a sprinkle of willingness to bring it into the world.)

Our Dare to Shine Necklace, now available in both gold-plated recycled silver and certified recycled sterling silver, was created as a talisman for exactly that.

A small reminder resting close to you. The message is already there: Listen. Trust it. And dare to shine brightly.
