GENTLE HEART: THE PRACTICE OF LIVING WITH AN OPEN HEART

Posted by Christina Zipperlen on October 1, 2026

I read these words recently and felt an immediate sense of recognition:

“The love in our hearts makes us more than enough.”
— Joyce Vissell

There is something so simple about this. And at the same time, actually living it isn't always simple at all.

To live from the love in our hearts, to give it freely and easily, even when that feels difficult, even when we carry an ache or our heart is yearning or grieving, is something I find myself practicing again and again. Almost like a skill to hone, or a language I want to become more fluent in.

I don't think I'm alone in this. Maybe we're all searching for ways to let a little more of our love out. To feel safe enough to lead with our hearts, even when we don't know what will meet us there.

LOVE AS A PRACTICE

Statements about living from love can easily oversimplify what that actually asks of us.

For me, it happens in small, ordinary moments. Taking a friend's hand when they share difficult or wonderful news. Listening without already preparing what I want to say next. Practicing eye contact when I speak to people, being present with them even if I have a million things going on. Offering myself the same kindness I so readily want to give to the people I love.

It takes practice. And sometimes it helps to have tiny touchstones that bring us back to what we want to remember.

Perhaps this is part of why Gentle Heart has become one of our most-loved collections.

Sometimes I reach for my Gentle Heart pieces when I already feel open and connected. Other times, I wear them because I don't.

The Gentle Heart ring helps me to remember to take loving actions. To carry the groceries of a neighbor to their door. To take a friend’s hand when they share difficult or wonderful news.

The Gentle Heart hoop earrings remind me to listen lovingly. To release my desire to respond and make more space for what I’m hearing. To be present with what is being said or sung or whispered.

The Gentle Heart necklace reminds me that just below it, through the clothing, skin, and stories, is a beating heart. One that holds my mother’s smile and my daughter’s laugh. One that has held me through all my years, tears, and triumphs, grief and joy. One that is my ally on this journey to living fully in love.

Perhaps a gentle heart isn't a heart that has been spared difficulty.

Perhaps it is one that continues to love anyway.

PINK TOURMALINE: A STONE FOR THE HEART

At the center of every Gentle Heart piece is Pink Tourmaline, chosen very intentionally for this design.

Pink Tourmaline has long been associated with love, compassion and emotional healing. It is believed to encourage tenderness towards ourselves and others, and to support the heart in releasing emotional heaviness while making space for trust, connection and joy.

I especially love its association with a love of humanity. Not only romantic love, but the wider, more expansive love that asks us to care about one another, to meet each other with sympathy and compassion, to stand gently in ourselves while standing up for unconditional love and friendship.

MORE WAYS TO WEAR GENTLE HEART

Over the years, Gentle Heart has become one of our most-loved designs. And now there are more ways to carry its reminder with you.

For the first time, the Gentle Heart necklace, earrings and ring are available in recycled sterling silver, each set with Pink Tourmaline. They join the original gold-plated pieces, as well as our Gentle Heart cord necklace.

The cord necklace offers a more relaxed way to wear this beloved pendant. Its durable cord is lovingly assembled by mothers in our Bali community program, creating meaningful employment while bringing another pair of hands into the story of each piece.

Silver, gold or cord, the intention remains the same:

A reminder to keep blossoming.
… to choose tenderness where you can.
… to let yourself be moved.
… to keep your heart open, even when doing so takes courage.

Every Gentle Heart piece is made with Pink Tourmaline and blessed in a traditional Balinese ceremony before beginning its journey to you.

And perhaps that is what I hope Gentle Heart can be most of all: a small companion for the practice of loving. Not perfectly. Not endlessly. But again and again.

Thank you to all of you who keep choosing to bring more love into this wild and wonderful world we share.
