At Ananda Soul, creation is never a straight line. Each collection begins as a feeling, a whisper, a symbol, a story that wants to be told. From sketches and watercolor, dreams to conversations around the workbench, our process unfolds like birth: intuitive, messy, alive, and shared.
Together with Yulia, my longtime collaborator and production midwife of over a decade, and the hands and heart of our Balinese team, we bring these visions into form. When we say handcrafted in Bali, we mean every world: it’s not just jewelry we create, but offerings born from collaboration, care, and trust in how life itself unfolds.
The Spark Before Form
If the origin story of Ananda Soul began with a leap of faith, each collection begins the same way: with a quiet nudge that says, listen.
Our creative process never starts with a trend forecast or a spreadsheet. It begins with symbols that arise in dreams, emotions that echo through a season, archetypes that want to be remembered. Creation, for us, is an act of attunement, a conversation with what’s waiting to be born.
My rituals for listening are simple and sacred: sketching late at night with candlelight, watercoloring archetypes until they reveal their essence, creating vision boards that act as invitations for the unseen to take shape. Each sketch holds a pulse, a whisper of meaning that slowly becomes matter. Every piece starts as a feeling before it becomes form – a translation of something felt, known, and ancient into something that can be worn, held, and cherished.
The Alchemy of Collaboration
Once the spark takes form on paper, it begins to weave itself into the collective. And this is where the true alchemy begins. For over a decade, Yulia has been my creative counterpart and the anchor of our production process, part translator, part midwife, always the calm in the storm of creation. Together, we refine ideas, rework proportions, and breathe life into designs that must balance beauty with integrity.
But no piece ever emerges from one pair of hands alone. The artisans in our Balinese workshop, many of whom have worked with us for years, bring their own soul to each piece. From the carver who etches the tiniest symbols into wax, to the silversmith who polishes each curve by hand, every step carries prayer, precision, and presence.
When we say handcrafted in Bali, we mean both worlds. Our creations are born through the hands of humans, infused with the island’s spirit of devotion and artistry. Each design is a meeting point between cultures, hearts, and worlds, a reminder that beauty is a collective act.
The Birth Process
Like birth, creation is not a clean process. It moves through contractions, pauses, and surges of energy that demand patience and surrender. Every piece moves through tension, sketches that don’t translate, castings that need adjustment, stones that refuse to sit as expected. And yet, within that friction lies the magic: the moment when we stop controlling and start listening.
There is emotional labor in bringing each piece through. The symbols we work with are alive, they work through us, stir us, initiate us. We feel the essence of each collection long before it reaches the world: the resilience of Akhilanda, the grace of Demeter, the stillness of the Inner Oracle. They teach us as we shape them, mirroring our own cycles of expansion and release.
Over time, we’ve learned that imperfection is not failure, but the breath of life itself. Each piece bears the fingerprints of its becoming, and it is precisely this humanity that makes it whole.
The Final Shape
When the final casting arrives, there’s a collective exhale. The design that once lived in watercolor and wire now breathes as silver, gold, and stone. It passes from hands to heart, from our bench to yours.
The moment of release is always bittersweet: joy, relief, and reverence braided together. To see an idea that began as a whisper now resting on someone’s skin feels like witnessing the full circle of creation – from unseen to seen, from soul to form.
Every collection teaches us something new about trust, patience, and devotion. And with each release, we bow in gratitude to our team, to the island of Bali, and to the creative forces that move through us, asking to be expressed, shared, and offered back to the world.
Because in the end, that’s what we really do: we listen, we create, we let go, again and again, in devotion to beauty, story, and soul.
