I was thinking: who needs to hear those words the most?
And it struck me that it was me.
So, dear old me @__seli_b — who has ever thought to hear them from you? Certainly not me.
I feel clumsy, like saying I love you to my first lover with no hope of resonance. Because a part of me never thought to deserve it, to be worth it, to be accepted, and most of all, to be seen.
How could I believe something others can see if I cannot?
So I started thinking of my younger self, that little girl who so desperately wants to be loved. And I find myself whispering:
I care for you. I cry for you. I see you.
I see your bravery, your gentleness with every living being, the way your eyes light up when you talk about books. How you are never calmer than by the sea, how you find beauty in so much, and still lose your breath over a sunset.
And most of all, I give that love to you with no bargain, with no “but only if…”
I remind myself, even on the darkest days, with every beating heartbeat, that little girl is still me.
So even in sadness, I feel a door opening in my heart: quiet, hopeful.
And maybe one day, I will look at the woman in the mirror and say:
I see you. And I love you, in every version.
