Valentine's Day is the day to finally start loving yourself

Posted by Christina Zipperlen on

Loving yourself isn’t an easy task. It begins with understanding our own worthiness, as much as our capability in identifying and then doing things that nurture us from the inside out. This Valentine’s Day we proclaim: love begins with ourselves.

Why? Because there is this saying that you can only love as much as you love yourself. And to pour love out into the world is all we need these days.

Valentine’s Day is a day many roll their eyes at. Is it just a commercial thing or was there actually some meaning behind Saint Valentine? But whether you give it attention and deeper meaning or not, why don’t we take this day as an opportunity to love a little louder, a little deeper and a little bolder and to begin right here ( – put your hand on your heart): with ourselves.

This year make Valentine’s Day a dedication to Self and your own self-development

The Importance of Self-Love:

In a world that often encourages us to seek external validation, it's crucial to recognize the significance of self-love. This isn't about being selfish or narcissistic; instead, it's about acknowledging and appreciating our worth, embracing our imperfections, and cultivating a deep sense of compassion for ourselves.

Practice Self-Compassion:

Self-love begins with self-compassion. Understand that it's okay to make mistakes, face challenges, and experience setbacks. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a dear friend going through a tough time. Embrace your flaws as part of what makes you beautifully human.

Nurturing Your Mind, Body, and Soul:

Take the time to nurture and care for yourself holistically. Engage in activities that bring you joy, whether it's reading a book, practicing mindfulness, or indulging in a favorite hobby. Prioritize self-care, nourish your body with wholesome foods, and engage in regular exercise to promote physical and mental well-being.

Setting Boundaries:

A crucial aspect of self-love is learning to set healthy boundaries. Identify what is and isn't acceptable in your relationships and daily life. Respect your own limits and communicate them clearly to others. Creating boundaries allows you to protect your emotional well-being and fosters a greater sense of self-respect.

Gratitude for Yourself:

Take a moment to reflect on the qualities and strengths that make you unique. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and express gratitude for the person you've become. Practicing gratitude for yourself can shift your perspective and enhance your self-love journey.

Embracing Alone Time:

Being comfortable in your own company is a powerful form of self-love. Embrace moments of solitude to reflect, recharge, and connect with your inner self. Use this time to explore your thoughts, dreams, and desires without the influence of external opinions.

After all the most important and enduring relationship we'll ever have is the one with ourselves. Self-love is not just a fleeting emotion; it's a lifelong journey of acceptance, growth, and compassion. By cultivating a deep and genuine love for ourselves, we lay the foundation for healthier relationships with others and create a more fulfilling and joyful life. So, whether you're single or in a relationship, remember to shower yourself with the love and kindness you truly deserve.

This isn’t quite enough yet? Read in last year’s blogpost about Self love more practical tips on how to take care of yourself.

Happy Valentine's Day to the beautiful soul that is you!
