How to Measure Your Ring Size

We ask the angels, chant with gods and goddesses, meditate heavily under full moons while holding a large-sized pointed crystal quartz, pull tarot cards, and yes, sometimes even whisper to our pendulums when making small and big life decisions.
But when it comes to something as down-to-earth as your ring size, however, we very gently suggest taking a more practical approach.
We know. Shocking.
But trust us: when your dream ring arrives and glides effortlessly onto your finger (not stuck halfway or spinning like a hula hoop), you’ll be glad you did.
So, how do you figure out your ring size without leaving the comfort of your couch or altar? We’ve got options: from super techy to delightfully old-school crafty DIY.
The Most Accurate Option
(aka the boring but wise one – we also really recommend this one):
1.
Go to a local jeweler.
Yep. It’s old-fashioned, it's precise, and no sacred ritual required (unless you want to, then feel free to make something up). Most jewelers will measure your size in a few seconds – and it’s often free.
This is the gold standard. A jeweler uses professional tools (like mandrels and metal ring sizers) to find your exact size. No second-guessing. No printer settings.

Plastic zip tool
Looks like a tiny, flexible belt for your finger. Surprisingly fun to play with. Surprisingly accurate. Loop it.
How it works: Insert the end through the buckle, tighten slightly, and read the size in the little window.
Accuracy: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Verdict: Surprisingly accurate and satisfying to use. Handy and affordable.
3.
Metal gauge rings
A bunch of actual rings in graduated sizes, usually on a loop. A full ring sizer set that makes you feel like a professional jeweler. Or a very glamorous hardware store clerk.
How it works: Slip them on until you find the perfect fit.
Accuracy: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Verdict: Professional-level accuracy from your couch. Bonus: makes you feel fancy.
4.
Mandrel
Basically a stick with measurements. Great if you already own rings and want to check their size. Bonus points if you know how to spell it.
How it works: Slide a ring down the mandrel and read the size where it stops.
Accuracy: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Verdict: Best if you already own a ring that fits. Less useful if starting from scratch.
5.
Ruler + your favorite ring
DIY but solid.
Measure the internal diameter in mm and match it to our size chart. Just don’t use the ruler app on your phone. Trust us.
How it works: Measure the inside diameter of a well-fitting ring in millimeters and compare it to our size chart.

Verdict: Simple and effective, but small measuring errors are easy to make. Double-check!

Printable chart
For those with working printers and faith in scaling.
Line up an existing ring on the screen or paper and match the inner circle. (Be sure your printer doesn’t lie about scale.)
How it works: Print out a ring chart and place a ring over the sizing circles to find your match.
Accuracy: ★★★ (3/5)
Verdict: Handy if your printer behaves. Just make sure the scale is 100% (NOT “Fit to Page,” we beg you).
7.
Strip of paper (print & cut)
The artsy, intuitive, DIY chaos method. For the arts-and-crafts-inclined. Tape, scissors, and a steady hand required.
How it works: Wrap a strip of paper or string around your finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length, and match to a size chart. Good luck with that one.
Accuracy: ★★½ (2.5/5)
Verdict: It works in a pinch, but be gentle and precise. Not for the faint of heart (or shaky-handed).
8.
Inner Finger Measuring Oracle
Because sometimes… you just know.
How it works: Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Ask your higher self: “Is this finger a 6.5 or a 7?” Visualize the ring. Imagine it sliding on. Receive the message. Ignore all logic. Trust the vibe. Bonus points if you're holding a moon-charged crystal or whispering into a pendulum while doing this.

And Before You Begin…
...some final nuggets of earthly wisdom:
- Measure in the evening when when your fingers are a little puffier. That’s your real-world size (yes, fingers change – wild, right?).
- Don’t measure when you’re cold unless you want a ring that flies off at yoga
- Measure the exact finger you plan to wear the ring on – your right and left hands are not twins.
- If you're between sizes, size up, because comfort is cute and sacred.
- Gifting? Borrow a ring and use the mandrel or diameter method. Secret agent vibes.
