The setting that holds this raw-cut crystal is engraved with the mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ written in Aksara, an old Sanskrit scripture. This mantra, intimately linked to Guanyin, translates to “The Jewel is in the Lotus,” symbolizing the transformation of suffering into enlightenment and limitless kindness.

The goddess Guanyin (also spelled Kuan Yin or Quan Yin) is considered a Bodhisattva or the Goddess of Compassion in the Buddhist tradition. Her name translates as "Perceiver of Sounds," which is why she is the one who hears the cries of the world and responds to those in need. Her strength is her ability to see the needs of the world and unquestionably extend her compassion and benevolence in all directions.

To be relentlessly compassionate asks for a quality of fierceness within oneself. It asks to surrender and lay to rest our individual self and our own motives and to put to the forefront that which we find – deeply in our hearts – to be for the benefit of the collective.

In Bali, Dewi Kwan Im is revered for protection from illness and misfortune, as well as for healing and well-being. The mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ as it is engraved on the top of the pendant cultivates the same qualities of compassion and wisdom that Guanyin exemplifies. Reciting "Om Mani Padme Hum" is a way to connect with the spiritual heart and compassion that Guanyin embodies so profoundly.
