Mother of Seasons – Honoring Demeter
The Held to Hold Collection is an ode to thresholds and support: the way we are carried through change, held by community, and rooted in ancient wisdom.
With our newest Mother of Season pieces, we bow to Demeter, the goddess who embodies the turning of the seasons, the fertility of the fields, and the eternal rhythm of loss and renewal. These jewels remind us that just as the earth cycles through growth, harvest, and rest, so too do our lives move in seasons.
Who is Demeter?
In Greek mythology, Demeter is the revered Mother of the Harvest, the one who ensures the fertility of the land and the abundance of crops. She embodies the eternal rhythm of life, death, and rebirth.
Most widely remembered through the myth of her daughter Persephone her story is one of love and loss. When Persephone was abducted to the underworld, Demeter’s grief was so vast that she withdrew her gifts from the earth, causing the fields to wither and winter to descend. Demeter’s grief becomes winter itself. Only Persephone’s return each spring softened her sorrow, allowing the world to bloom again.
Beyond the cycles of agriculture, Demeter represents the archetypal Mother, who tends, who holds, who ensures that endings are never final. She reminds us that every seed must fall into darkness before it rises, that every descent carries within it the promise of ascent.
Through this story we are reminded that the cycles of life, birth, loss, and return, are not linear but woven together, and that grief and renewal exist in eternal conversation.
The Qualities of Demeter
Demeter is both fierce protector and gentle nourisher.
She embodies:
- Fertility and growth: the fields ripen under her care.
- Grief and longing: the stillness of winter mirrors her mourning.
- Resilience and return: each spring, she rises again, bringing blossoms and bounty.
- Community and care: as guardian of harvest and hearth, she reminds us that nourishment is never solitary; it is shared.
These qualities speak to the thresholds we each cross: seasons of plenty, times of loss, moments of stillness, and the inevitable blooming again.

Introducing the Mother of Seasons Pieces
The Mother of Seasons Mala
Hand-beaded with 216 Rudraksha and Garnet beads, this mala is both a prayer and a talisman. The pendant mirrors the necklace, a pomegranate cradling Demeter and her garnet, with the four seasonal trees on the back, while the sacred Rudraksha seeds, revered as protectors of heart and spirit, anchor its energy. Each bead is a quiet rhythm of devotion, making this mala a sacred companion for practice, reflection, and the weaving of your own life into the turning wheel of time.
The Mother of Seasons Necklace
This necklace honors Demeter as the guardian of cycles and the giver of life. Shaped as a pomegranate, its pendant depicts Demeter cradling a deep red garnet in her hands, encircled by branches of nature. On the reverse, four trees represent the seasons: autumn’s surrender, winter’s stillness, spring’s awakening, and summer’s abundance, circling a garnet at the center. A talisman of fertility, renewal, and eternal return, it carries the Mother’s blessing to birth, to nourish, and to hold us in both joy and grief.
Together, these pieces invite us to honor the sacred cycles within and around us. They are reminders that endings always carry the seed of beginning, that grief is bound to love, and that, like Demeter, we hold the power to nourish life through every season of the soul.
