Materials & Craftsmanship

Recycled metals. Natural gemstones. Ethical production.

Integrity guides every decision we make, from sourcing materials to shaping each design. We believe transparency is part of responsibility, which is why we openly share how and where our jewelry is made. At the heart of our production are skilled artisans, many of them women, whose care and craftsmanship bring each piece to life. We create with intention and accountability, committed to processes that honor both people and planet. Here is a closer look at how our jewelry is responsibly made.

Conscious Consumerism: The World We Want

We believe luxury is not defined by excess, but by the responsibility that comes with choice. True value lies in knowing how something is made, who made it, and what impact it carries. At Ananda Soul, mindfulness is woven into every stage of our production, from design to sourcing to final assembly. By choosing recycled metals, natural gemstones, and responsible partnerships, we align beauty with accountability, shaping a more thoughtful way of creating and consuming.

Certified Recycled 925 Sterling Silver

At the core of our jewelry is high-quality, certified recycled 925 sterling silver. We source our silver from a German refinery that uses environmentally responsible refining processes and ensures all materials are conflict-free. By choosing recycled silver, no additional mining is required for our pieces. Instead, we work with silver that is already in circulation, reducing environmental impact while maintaining exceptional quality.

Silver can be recycled endlessly without losing its integrity, making it one of the most sustainable precious metals available. The “925” in sterling silver refers to its composition: 92.5% pure silver combined with 7.5% strengthening alloy. We use copper sourced from Germany as our alloy, which is completely nickel-free and safe for sensitive skin. Today, silver stands alongside gold as a precious metal, valued for its timeless beauty, durability, and enduring place in fine jewelry.

Recycled Solid Gold in Bali

Gold is one of the most enduring materials in jewelry. When responsibly sourced and conflict-free, solid gold can last for generations and be recycled endlessly without losing its quality. While many of our pieces are crafted from recycled sterling silver with gold vermeil or gold plating, we also offer a selection of jewelry made from certified recycled 18kt solid gold in our Bali stores. These pieces are paired with certified fair trade gemstones such as sapphire, emerald, and ruby, and are designed as future heirlooms to be passed down over time. Our dream is to one day make this collection available online, but for now it can be discovered in person at our Bali boutiques.

Natural Gemstones

We work exclusively with 100% natural gemstones in our jewelry. Our stones originate from Brazil, India, Tibet, Australia, Tanzania, and Madagascar, sourced through partners who prioritize responsible mining practices and fair working conditions.

Our smaller gemstones are supplied by an Italian partner who sources rough materials from certified small companies and family-run businesses. Our larger stones and beads come from a family-owned business in India with whom we have worked for over a decade, maintaining transparency across their sourcing and cutting processes.

Because there is currently no universal certification system for most gemstone mining, as there is for diamonds, we rely on long-term relationships, direct communication, and ongoing diligence to ensure transparency in how our stones are sourced.

For the solid gold pieces available in our Bali stores, we work with certified fair trade gemstones such as sapphire, emerald, and ruby.

Protecting Tradition: Balinese Craftsmanship

Artisanship has long been woven into the cultural fabric of Bali, where silversmithing traditions are passed down through generations. In Bali, metalsmiths are known as Pandai, a word meaning both “smith” and “clever,” reflecting the deep respect for this craft.

Our designs begin in our Ubud studio, where Christina creates each piece before an in-house female wax carver shapes it in wax for production. Much of our jewelry is then brought to life in Celuk, a village renowned for its silversmithing heritage. Our Celuk workshop is a small family-run business that works exclusively with Ananda Soul, and over the years our relationship has grown into a deeply supportive partnership. While silversmithing has historically been male-dominated, many of the artisans shaping our pieces today are women.

Across our workshops in Celuk and Denpasar, we maintain close communication to ensure fair working conditions, including fair wages, paid leave, medical and life insurance, as well as accommodation and daycare for working mothers.

Our braided and beaded designs are created by mothers of street children in Denpasar whose employment opens pathways to education, security, and a better future.

The Blessings of Bali

As the final step of our production process, our jewelry is blessed in a traditional Balinese ceremony before being sent out into the world. This ritual is deeply connected to the purpose and values that guide Ananda Soul.

In Bali, devotion is not something separate from daily life. It lives in the weaving of canang offerings, in the lighting of incense, and in the quiet prayers carried by the wind. It is an intimate dialogue between human hearts and the unseen world that holds them.

On the full moon, a Balinese priest joins our team to gather prayers, intentions, and gratitude that are infused into the pieces we create. Our prayer is that each piece carries a sense of harmony, protection, and joy to the person who receives it.

THE BLESSING CEREMONY

Every piece of Ananda Soul jewelry is blessed in a traditional Balinese ceremony before it begins its journey into the world. Rooted in the island’s living culture of devotion, this ritual is an essential part of our creative process. Discover the meaning and traditions behind the blessing.
